Our team is made up of people who have been very successful in their careers, and we help people be successful in their next career. now they’re sharing what they know to create a new wave of highly successful and highly knowledgeable property managers. But some of the ways to stay ahead are universal regardless of what career path you have chosen.
- Focus on the end goal and keep working towards it.
Whether this be a job position that you’re working towards, or something new that you want to implement within your role, keep it in your mind. I’m not saying everything you do will be geared towards that one goal, because your goal may be slightly different to your bosses goal. As long as the goal is something that motivates you and will help keep you focused then you’ll be on the right track.
- Present yourself at your best.
Obviously you can’t be at your best all of the time, but you never know when a good opportunity is going to come around. You don’t want to be overlooked because you were having a bad day. Your best on one day might not be as good as your best on another day, but by aiming high you’ll still surpass a lot of people.
- Say yes.
By this I don’t mean become the dumping ground for everyone’s work, but just be willing to step outside of your box. Be wiling to help people, and be willing to do a few extra things if you have the time. This is one of those things where you may feel like people don’t notice when you do it, but they actually do, and it paints you in a really good light.
- Find your passion.
The notion of finding a “dream job” isn’t quite realistic, but you can find passion for what you do. If you have no passion for what you do then it’s unlikely that you’re going to stick with it for the rest of your working life, but in my experience there’s almost always something in a job that inspires passion.
- Don’t undervalue the social connection.
You don’t have to be best friends with everyone, but it’s just a fact that people are more likely to want to work with people that they like., and people paint the people that they like in a more positive light. So be friendly, go to social events and take opportunities to network with other people.
